Don’t Shock Me is a non-profit (501C3) foundation dedicated to heightening awareness of toxic shock syndrome (TSS). It was created in honor of 19-year-old Maddy Massabni, who lost her life to TSS on March 30, 2017.

Toxic shock syndrome, or TSS, is a quietly lethal and rare complication of certain types of bacterial infections, the symptoms of which are often mistaken for common illnesses. Undetected, it can ravage an otherwise healthy body within in a matter of days.

This foundation, created in Maddy’s honor, raises money to peak awareness via speaking engagements and literature. The money raised pays for travel and associated expenses to fulfill the mission of speaking to and educating young women at colleges and high schools throughout the United States about the symptoms of toxic shock and risks associated with tampon use.

Informational literature is also distributed to schools’ students so that they may reference it and better understand the dangers associated with tampon use and how to prevent toxic shock.

The foundation is also lobbying to change women’s health policy on a national level to boost awareness of the illness. Through education at the consumer, retailer and lawmaker levels, the foundation’s goal is to eradicate toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Together, we will save lives.

About Maddy…

Maddy Massabni was a vibrant, beautiful, loving, thoughtful, determined and kind young woman. She was full of life and spread happiness wherever she went. She lived life to the fullest each day. To her, every moment was special. Her philosophy was that regardless of life’s obstacles, there are still miles to go, places to see, things to do, and a life to live. Her positivity was radiant.

Maddy lived her life without fear of judgment. She was silly, charismatic and an inspiration to all. She brought laughter and love to everyone she touched and wanted them to feel special, each in his or her own way. Maddy was known for her beautiful smile and contagious laugh. Her presence lit up every room she entered.

Maddy had aspirations to finish college, go into the fashion industry and travel the world. She had done some modeling and was on the cover of a magazine. She had so many friends that loved her and shared so many wonderful times together. Family was most important to her and they shared a very unique and special bond.

Her mother and brother were her best friends. She believed that as a team they could do anything together, conquering all things in life. Her life now lives on through everyone who knew her and will never be forgotten.
